The Justice Court will be closed Friday March 29, 2024 in observance of Good Friday. We will re-open on Monday April 1, 2024 @ 8:00 a.m.
The court is open Monday thru Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Closed for lunch from 12:00 noon until 1:00 p.m.
Effective September 1, 2020, the jurisdictional limit will increase to $20,000.00 in Justice Courts. Please review the Justice Court Rules to ensure proper filing of your lawsuit.
The Justice of the Peace adjudicates class C misdemeanor cases punishable by fine only, including traffic tickets, penal code offenses, and hot checks. J.P.s also enforce certain county and state ordinances; including environmental violations, illegal dumping, illegal towing, and burn bans.
They have jurisdiction in all civil cases in which the amount of controversy is $20,000 or less. (The jurisdictional amount for Repair and Remedy Cases is still $10,000) These may include tort cases and suits on account, landlord and tenant matters, evictions, matters concerning foreclosure of mortgages and enforcement of liens on personal property, and driver's license hearings.
A Justice of the Peace may also issue warrants for search and arrest, conduct preliminary hearings, administers oaths, handle emergency protective orders during Magistrate process, perform marriages and they are a Magistrate Judge and Coroner.

JUDGE WAYNE S. VAUGHN was appointed Justice of the Peace for Pct. 2 on April 11, 2022 after the passing of the Honorable Judge Kyle D. Bradley. He will serve the remainder of the respected term.
I am a proud USAF Veteran. Christi and I have been married for 48 years with 4 children and 19 grandchildren. We raised our children in a Christ-centered home where we taught the love of God, family, Country, and Personal Responsibility. As a parent of a Wounded Warrior, I understand and honor the sacrifices made for our great country.
